Esta operación tuvo el rechazo inicial de las administradoras de fondos de pensiones (AFP), que se opusieron a un cambio de estatutos de Telefónica de Chile. Pero con un aumento de la oferta de Telefónica en 100 millones de dólares, las AFP han comprometido su voto de aprobación el martes.

Tim O'Reilly, creador del término web 2.0 y una de las personas más influyente en el área de las nuevas tecnologías, en una entrevista con el diario El País de España, declaró que la crisis económica hará desaparecer sólo a las empresas obsoletas de internet.
O'Reilly, nacido en Irlanda, es reconocido como uno de los pioneros en la internet y a él se le atribuyen algunos momentos claves en el mundo tecnológico, como haber publicado el primer libro popular sobre la red, tener el primer blog comercial exitoso, y el haber acuñado el término web 2.0.
En un principio O'Reilly, estudió literatura, se licenció en estudios Clásicos de la Universidad de Harvard, pero hoy se ha convertido en uno de los principales impulsores del Software Libre, gracias a su trabajo en el lenguaje Perl y a los libros publicados en su propia editorial O'Reilly Media.
La entrevista del diario español, fue realizada en el marco de la IV Conferencia Internacional de Software Libre, celebrada en Málaga, donde fue el principal expositor.
Sobre la Web 2.0 el autor de los primeros manuales de Macromedia señaló que "es una tendencia muy potente y creo que la recesión le afectará muy poco. Todos queremos estar conectados, tener redes más amplias al margen de lo que ocurra en la economía. Un puñado de empresas saldrá perfectamente adelante, y otras, más obsoletas, van a dejar el negocio. Pero no por la crisis, el mercado las iba a expulsar de todas maneras. La crisis simplemente acelerará los cambios y permitirá deshacerse del peso muerto, como ocurrió en la depresión del 29".
