Europa apuesta por la revolución de la Web 3.0
La Comisión Europea cree que la tercera generación de Internet cambiará radicalmente la sociedad, por lo que destacan la importancia de ponerse al frente de esa revolución.
Los nuevos usos de Internet, en la llamada Web 3.0, son ya una realidad, todavía incipiente, a la que la Comisión Europea quiere que se sume con fuerza la Unión para aprovechar sus grandes posibilidades para la economía y el desarrollo tecnológico.
El principio del que se parte es que la red del futuro cambiará radicalmente la sociedad, y Europa debería ponerse el frente de esa revolución social.
Un informe de la comisión Europea señala que la cuarta parte de los europeos utilizaba en 2007 los sitios de la Web 2.0, aquellos en los que el internauta es protagonista.
A finales del año pasado, la mitad de los europeos tenía acceso a banda ancha de dos megabytes por segundo o más (el doble que hace un año), una capacidad que permite ver televisión en la pantalla del ordenador. Además, el 79 por ciento de las zonas rurales tenía acceso a banda ancha, frente al 93 por ciento de las áreas urbanas.
La Comisión mantiene que las nuevas aplicaciones tecnológicas convertirán a la red en un "Internet de los objetos", con constante interacción de máquinas, vehículos, aparatos, sensores y muchos otros dispositivos. Gracias a ella, los billetes electrónicos son ya una realidad, y los dispositivos móviles intercambian datos para realizar pagos u obtener información. Se calcula que más de mil millones de teléfonos irán equipados con esa tecnología de aquí a 2015.
"La Web 3.0 significa la posibilidad de hacer negocios, crear redes sociales en cualquier momento o en cualquier lugar, sin discontinuidad, mediante redes rápidas fiables y seguras. (...) Debemos asegurarnos que la Web 3.0 se haga y utilice en Europa", manifestó en un comunicado la comisaria de Sociedad de la Información, Viviane Reding, en declaraciones que fueron difundidas por el diario El País.
Lo que propone Reding es que se impulse el acceso a la banda ancha de la próxima generación, mientras insiste en que debe seguir abierta a la competencia, deben evitarse las restricciones a la capacidad de elección de los consumidores y se debe financiar la investigación en la Internet del futuro.
